Breakfast was once a sit-down meal, often featuring a bowl of cereal or plate of eggs and toast. But the concept of breakfast has changed in recent times. Many folks opt for grab-and-go options, allowing them to eat breakfast on the move, while they rush to work or school. One of the easiest things for many to grab as they start their day is a breakfast sandwich, either at home or from a fast food chain.

In fact, according to Data Intelo, the 2025 market for frozen breakfast sandwiches totaled $8.4 billion. And those sales are projected to grow in the years to come. But as the amount and variety of frozen breakfast sandwiches increases, how can a brand set itself apart in the freezer aisle of the grocery store?

One way is by focusing on ingredient quality, including higher-protein meats or meat substitutes, cage-free or organic eggs, whole-grain breads, and additive-free cheeses. With that in mind, this list focuses on some of the highest-quality breakfast sandwiches you can find in grocery stores. Each one is highly rated by customers and has ingredients you can easily identify. So, enjoy giving a few (or all) of these a try as you find your favorite quick way to fuel yourself in the morning.

Applegate Naturals Turkey Breakfast Sandwich

These breakfast sandwiches are a relative newcomer on the frozen breakfast scene. Applegate introduced them in early 2025 in two varieties: turkey sausage on an English muffin and a chicken and maple sausage version on a biscuit. The Applegate Naturals Turkey Breakfast Sandwich is made with certified humane eggs, cheddar, and turkey sausage made from humanely raised turkeys. There's also 14 grams of protein in each sandwich, making it a great choice for those watching their macros. Customers say they're clean-tasting and are great for a grab-and-go breakfast.

The brand sells products that adhere to its environmental sustainability protocols and keep the health of the animals in mind. That's why there are no antibiotics used. The business has also banned genetically modified (GM) ingredients, corn syrup, and around 700 other less-than-ideal ingredients in its products. And these standards of quality apply to more than just Applegate's breakfast options; its organic uncured hot dogs are one of the few hot dog brands made with 100% beef.

Kodiak Bacon & Colby Jack Maple Pancake Sandwich

You might be familiar with this brand; Kodiak Cakes appeared on Shark Tank in 2014. While the brand didn't make a deal with the sharks, the business still took off and is now found in grocery stores across the nation. Kodiak focuses on making breakfast items that are packed with protein and made with 100% whole grains.

That includes its breakfast sandwiches, which are made with nitrate-free meat and at least 20 grams of protein per serving. There are three different kinds made with different combinations of meats, eggs, and cheeses, but a fan favorite is the Bacon & Colby Jack Cheese version. This one has clean ingredients, like real cheese, uncured bacon, a fried egg patty, and maple-infused pancakes made with whole-grain wheat and oat flours. It's also made with real maple, instead of artificial flavorings and additives.

Customers have been surprised by how tasty these breakfast items are. One said they're great for a quick breakfast, and another Reddit user stated, "Kodiak is a solid brand. I'm never let down by their products and love the extra protein they pack." Many more customers have praised the sandwich as well, with one noting that it was a safe way for them as a diabetic to enjoy pancakes with a maple flavor, thanks to the hearty boost of protein.

Red's Chicken Sausage, Egg & Cheese English Muffin

Red's was founded in 2009 after a married couple decided to start selling burritos. Since then, the company's products have expanded to breakfast options too, with a focus on antibiotic- and nitrate-free meats and non-GMO ingredients. The animal protein gives these a boost in satiety factor, and some varieties of these sandwiches can be found at Costco to buy in bulk. In fact, they are one of the frozen Costco breakfast items with over 12 grams of protein. And the Egg'wich Breakfast Sandwiches are made without bread, making them perfect for those avoiding gluten.

Red's Chicken Sausage, Egg & Cheese English Muffin has 14 grams of protein and 250 calories per sandwich. The milk used for its cheese is also rBST-free. People have pointed out it melts very easily and is best removed before the first half of the microwaving time and put back on only for the last half of the heating process to avoid wasting any cheese that might otherwise melt out the sides. Customers call the sandwich quick and easy to make, with one person giving the sandwich a nine out of ten on their personal scale.

Mason Dixie Croissant Sandwich with Sausage, Egg & Cheese

Ayeshah Abuelhiga started Mason Dixie in 2014 as a way to recreate the from-scratch meals her immigrant parents had made for her growing up. Abuelhiga started selling the biscuits and sandwiches at a storefront before expanding into frozen foods. These options can now be found in supermarkets across the country. Mason Dixie doesn't use preservatives or artificial flavors, instead sticking to real butter, eggs, and nitrate-free meats.

There are several types of breakfast sandwiches, including the Croissant with Sausage, Egg, and Cheese. This item is made with hand-laminated croissant dough to keep the pastry light and flaky, along with cheddar cheese, a whole egg, and an all-pork sausage patty. It has 18 grams of protein and 400 calories per serving. Fans on Reddit have called the flavor "fantastic," saying the sausage was tasty and well-seasoned, with a good texture. Customers say it's easy to tell the croissant is made with real butter, although it can become hard if overcooked.

Impossible Breakfast Sandwich

You may be familiar with the Impossible Foods brand through its collaborations with Burger King and Starbucks. The meat alternative company began in 2011 as a way to bring plant-based protein to the masses without the massive environmental impacts that raising livestock creates, starting out with plant-based protein burgers. Similar to other plant-based meat brands like Beyond Meat, Impossible has a meaty flavor, thanks to the iron-rich plant heme it uses in its products.

That flavor carries over into the company's breakfast sandwich. It comes on an English muffin, with an egg white patty, real cheddar cheese, and a savory meatless sausage patty. Customers on Facebook say the sandwich tastes "fresh" and that it's hard to tell that the sausage is even plant-based. Another plus? The meatless sausage doesn't contain any nitrates. The meat substitute naturally has less fat than meat products, making it healthier than regular sausage patties. There are also 16 grams of protein, and each sandwich clocks in at 290 calories.

The frozen grocery store version is slightly different from the one sold at Starbucks, as the latter is served on ciabatta bread. Overall, this sandwich is a satisfying way to start the day with a nice bit of protein, a fluffy English muffin, and fresh-tasting eggs in just minutes.

Private Selection Everything Bagel Sandwich

Private Selection is a brand only found in Kroger-affiliated grocery stores. The brand has a reputation for tasty, quality foods; the Private Selection Wisconsin Five Cheese Blend Macaroni and Cheese ranked highly on our ranking of boxed mac and cheese dinners. The private label encompasses everything from fresh produce to bread to prepared food to frozen items, like breakfast sandwiches. One of the most popular of those is the Fried Egg, Black Forest Ham and Cheddar Everything Bagel Sandwich.

The product has 21 grams of protein and 370 calories per sandwich and is made with real cheese, cage-free eggs, and cured Black Forest ham. The premium ingredients contribute to the tasteable quality of the sandwiches, as well as the nutrition packed in them. For instance, the item provides around 11% of a person's recommended daily fiber amount, while the high protein per portion makes up around 37% of a person's daily needs.

One Reddit user said, "Holy smokes...Guys, If you've got a Kroger near you, these are absolutely the best frozen breakfast sandwiches I've ever eaten, and are better than most fast food options in my opinion!" They went on to call the bagel "chewy yet pillowy," while a commenter said they were surprised by how flavorful the sandwich was.

Rudi's Gluten Free Breakfast Sandwiches Egg and Cheese Frittata with Sausage

Rudi's Bakery specializes in making a variety of breads, including organic, higher-protein, and gluten-free options, as well as Texas toast, crustless sandwiches, and frozen foods. The brand sells two kinds of frozen breakfast sandwiches, and both come on gluten-free buns. The version with sausage comes with a patty made with cage-free eggs and real cheddar cheese. It has 14 grams of protein, 380 calories, and a minimally processed all-pork sausage patty. None of the ingredients use artificial preservatives, and the meat has no nitrates. These clean ingredients add to the overall quality and taste of the product. The sandwiches were introduced to the Rudi's product line in 2024 and have been gaining fans ever since.

Customers enjoy the taste of the sandwiches and the fact that they're gluten-free, while also appreciating the item's quality and quick cooking time. One caveat several Sprouts reviewers noted was that the bread can become hard if microwaved too long. It was suggested to toast the bread separately to give it a crispy texture.

Mason Dixie Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich with Sausage & Egg

Another entry from the Mason Dixie brand, the Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich with Sausage and Egg is one of the several breakfast sandwiches in the company's lineup. Like the croissant version, the cheddar-studded biscuit is handmade from scratch with real butter. The all-pork sausage and whole egg patty don't contain preservatives, artificial flavoring, or corn syrup, which helps keep the ingredients as simple as possible. The sandwich has 15 grams of protein and comes in at 350 calories per serving.

You can microwave this sandwich wrapped or unwrapped, and the company also has air fryer and traditional oven instructions on its website. The latter methods help avoid an unpleasant texture that can come from microwaving. Even when cooked that way though, Reddit users have said these sandwiches have the "best texture" of any frozen biscuit they've tried.

How we chose these sandwiches

In order to decide which sandwiches to include on this list, we had to examine multiple factors, such as the nutrition and ingredient labels, the value and taste of the items, whether they were regularly available, and, most importantly, the quality of the ingredients used to make them.

After identifying the sandwiches made with ingredients like real eggs, whole grains, and organic components, we then searched through social media posts, comment threads, professional reviews, and user review sites. Only the products with the most positive customer reviews regarding the taste and quality were chosen for the final list.
