From the just-toasted English muffin to the fresh-cracked egg (it's the only McDonald's breakfast sandwich that comes with one) to the delightfully salty protein — consisting of either Canadian bacon, actual bacon, or a sausage patty — it's no wonder the McDonald's Egg McMuffin, in all its forms, is so popular. While the American version might be the one you're most familiar with, the burger chain has actually branched out significantly overseas when it comes to variations on a theme. But unlike some versions, like Sweden's meaty bite, New Zealand's Honey Sriracha Massive McMuffin cannot be replicated at the drive-thru or in the app. No, instead, you'd have to recreate it at home because it requires two ingredients that are simply unavailable in U.S. McDonald's markets: two beef sausage patties and honey sriracha sauce.

Now, of course, you can't exactly recreate the flavors of New Zealand's McDonald's, but we'd guess you can get pretty close. Pick up a pound of ground beef and add some breakfast-y seasonings like sage, thyme, garlic, and onion powder, and perhaps even a touch of pure maple syrup (the sausage patty at New Zealand's McDonald's doesn't contain a sweet element, but this is your sandwich, so don't limit yourself).

Now for the honey sriracha sauce: You can actually buy it premade — Walmart has a few different bottles to try, like one by Lee Kum or Local Hive. But if you wanted to keep things homemade, it's as easy as one part sriracha to two parts honey, with perhaps some brown sugar for a deeper caramel flavor and seasonings like thyme or paprika thrown in as well.

More to recreate from McDonald's New Zealand's breakfast sandwich menu

While you have the ingredients on hand, you might also try to recreate the Honey Sriracha Big Brekkie Burger, another breakfast sandwich on McDonald's New Zealand menu that you simply cannot hack here in America. Again, the beef patty and the honey sriracha sauce are the culprits, but to make this truly impressive stack, you would also need bacon, a hash brown patty, and a hamburger bun instead of an English muffin. Further, the McDonald's restaurants in Kiwiland have another breakfast sandwich that uses the beef patty and honey sriracha sauce, this time in a wrap (it's called the Honey Sriracha Mega Brekkie Wrap), so you'd need to pick up tortillas, bacon, hash browns, and cheese. It's as big a bite as the discontinued Triple Breakfast Stacks McMuffin, but we think you can manage.

Another breakfast sandwich that caught our eye, which just isn't happening in American McDonald's, but which is absolutely doable at home, is the BLT Bagel, with the titular bacon, crisp fresh lettuce, and ripe tomato. Though it has many fewer ingredients than the Brekkies, it's still an enticing sammy, and the best part about making it yourself is that you can reconstruct the beloved summertime sandwich on any kind of bagel you want, like a favorite option from your local bagel shop.
