Parmesan cheese is an easy addition to any Italian meal. It can go on a simple spaghetti with sauce to add some salty, umami flavor or help build a crust on a nice chicken parmesan. And when you need an easy shredded parmesan, Sam's Club's Member's Mark shredded parmesan cheese in a big 24-ounce container might just be the way to go. It packs a lot of flavor. But where does it come from? Just like Costco's Kirkland boxed wine or Sam's Club Member's Mark bourbon, it needs to be traced to the source, and it appears that Sam's Club's Member's Mark shredded parmesan comes from Schuman Cheese.

While the brand's name may not be on the Sam's Club in-store label, with a little digging, the Schuman connection seems to be traced back to a job post linking it to Sam's Club. The company was searching for a "Strategic Account Representative" to work with companies, including Costco, Walmart, BJ's, and our guy Sam's Club. So the math adds up — Schuman is the likely provider of Sam's Club cheese. According to Schuman's website, its parmesan is aged for 12 months with no additives, just delicious shredded cheese. And the company has a long history with cheese, going back over seven decades, so it knows its aging.

What to do with your Sam's Club Member's Mark shredded parmesan

While you can just grab a pinch right from the container in the fridge and chomp on it as a midnight snack, there are some recipes to consider. If you're into homemade pizza, a sprinkle of parmesan might pull it all together. It can blend beautifully with the mozzarella and add a bit of salty, nutty flavor. And, if you're working with frozen pizzas, dust on a slight covering of shredded parmesan to cook perfectly in the oven — then let it brown. The little shredded flakes will curl up into perfectly roasted, crispy perfection.

Not only does it make a great pizza topper, but parmesan is a low-moisture cheese, so it works well for soaking up some liquid in risotto. Just blend it in as you cook the rice. You can even make it rain with a parmesan dash on Buffalo chicken wings. Fry the wings, then add the cheese just before they go into the oven to crisp up or when they come out of the fryer. Sam's Club Member's Mark grated parmesan is great as a topping for french fries, baked potatoes, or steamed veggies — it will give a nice salty, cheesy, umami flavor to whatever it falls on. And, right off the refrigerator shelf, pre-shredded from Sam's Club, it's ready to go.
