  • Arun grew up in New York City and Rome — two cities that greatly shaped his culinary sensibilities.
  • His blog "Spirits in the Material World" showcases the adult beverage scene in New York and New Jersey.
  • After cooking dinner for two people nearly every day for a year and a half, Arun is confident home chefs can prepare most meals using a stainless steel sauté pan and/or a Dutch oven.

Arun is a multimedia journalist who has survived TV news, print and digital journalism, and book publishing. Early in his career, he helped produce and edit cookbooks, including several Betty Crocker and Weight Watchers titles. He later worked for, where he carved out a beat writing about alcohol and gave himself the totally made-up title "chief spirits correspondent." Arun has covered many topics but keeps coming back to his favorites: travel, nature, outdoor recreation, and — of course — food and drink.

Arun has a Bachelor of Arts in film studies and a Master of Science in journalism from Columbia University. He has also continued his education through in-person and online courses, most recently completing the Edinburgh Whisky Academy's Certificate in Scotch Whisky.
