11 Celebrity Pizza Orders, Ranked Worst To Best
Celebrities are often seen as living up to largely unattainable standards, whether in talent, lifestyle, beauty, or something else entirely. But you know what? When it comes to a love of pizza, the playing field is instantly leveled. After all, just about everyone loves pizza, and most of us can rattle off our favorite pizza toppings without a second thought. That includes celebrities, who aren't all that different from the rest of us when it comes to this comfort food. Curious which toppings the stars were choosing, I checked out their pizza orders and found out. Just for kicks, I went ahead and ranked them from worst to best as well.
For my rankings, I focused on flavor, texture, mass appeal, and, of course, my own personal preferences. My take on these celebrity orders might not convince you to abandon your tried-and-true favorite, but it should be fun to see how your tastes compare with the stars'. Who knows? You might even discover a new topping combination worth trying, if only to feel a smidge closer to your idols.
11. Gordon Ramsay: Clams and chili
I'm usually the first person to profess my undying adoration for Gordon Ramsay, but when it comes to his favorite pizza toppings, we're worlds apart. So, sadly, he gets last place in my ranking. As for what they are, I almost don't want to tell you, but here goes... In a Hell's Kitchen Underground reel, Ramsay revealed that his favorite pizza toppings are clams and chili. Ugh, I know. Before any of you New Englanders get up in arms, I'm well aware that clams are a popular topping on New Haven pizzas. That said, the regional favorite hasn't exactly caught on across the country, and that doesn't bode well for the mass appeal of Ramsay's favorite pizza topping. Sorry, not sorry.
There's no denying a pizza with clams and chili will have lots of flavor and texture, but is it the one most of us want? I don't want to speak for others, but it certainly isn't something I'll be ordering. Gelatinous clams on pizza are a hard pass for me. I can get behind the chili — a little spice always goes far in my book — but after that, Ramsay loses me. Oh well. He's still a culinary god in my mind, but when it comes to pizza, we're clearly not on the same page.
10. Paula Abdul: Vegan
This is another low celebrity ranking that stings a bit. Paula Abdul has been an idol of mine for as long as I can remember, but I guess I'm the "Cold Hearted Snake" here because she's left me no option but to disagree with her go-to choice: vegan pizza so she can avoid cheese.
Obviously, vegan pizza is a niche choice. It speaks to some people who practice plant-based diets, but definitely not all. Case in point: I'm a vegetarian, but you won't catch me eating pizza without cheese. No, thanks. It lacks texture and flavor. Extra sauce can help vegan pizza by filling in some of the palatable gaps, but nothing compares to a gooey slice. Even so, I ranked Abdul's pizza choice higher than Ramsay's because, well, clams don't belong on pizza, and no one will change my mind on that. Moving on...
9. Britney Spears: Pepperoni
Alas, yet another legend in the world of celebrities whom I love, but didn't have a good enough pizza order to raise them from the dregs of our list. Unfortunately, this time it's Britney Spears. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, she was asked what snack she couldn't live without, and she said, "Pizza! I just love pepperoni." For someone known to be wildly adventurous in other aspects of her life, this sounded pretty lackluster to me.
While a classic choice by any standards, pepperoni is pretty boring all things considered. It's also exceptionally greasy, and it's processed meat. Those three strikes led me to give the pop princess only a ninth-place ranking. Pepperoni's mass appeal earned Britney's pizza order a few points, but other celebrity favorites far surpass it in texture and flavor. You'll see what I mean as we progress. Oh yeah, she also said, "I love food more than sex," so take that as you will. At least her favorite food is pizza, and that's something most of us can relate to. All hail Britney, even if her pizza topping of choice is fairly predictable.
8. Jennifer Lawrence: Chili and noodles sandwiched between slices
Coming in at eighth place is Jennifer Lawrence, and unlike Brit Brit, her favorite way to enjoy pizza is anything but boring. Actually, it is quite the opposite, especially when it comes to the toppings and how she munches it. She told Glamour she likes to make what she calls "a chili pizza sandwich." It involves putting Southern chili with noodles on top of a slice of pizza, then laying another slice face down on top so the whole creation can be eaten kind of like a sandwich. She jokingly says she was totally sober when she invented it, but the sarcasm is heavy. Despite this, she was quite proud of her invention.
Lawrence gets full marks here for creativity. She also scored big in the flavor and texture departments. However, her unusual pizza creation lacks mass appeal, unless, of course, you just so happen to be a touch inebriated. I admire her unique choices, though — and I have been known to enjoy a slice of mac and cheese pizza, so I can get behind the noodle aspect. Still, while many pizza sauces break flavor traditions, Southern chili takes this concept a bit too far for me, which is why her pizza order ranks lower on our list.
7. Giada De Laurentiis: Pancetta, prosciutto, and arugula
Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis's pizza order is where our ranking takes a serious turn for the better. In a 30 Second Quick Questions segment, she listed pancetta, prosciutto, and arugula as her three favorite pizza toppings, and that's a combo many people can get behind. The salty Italian meats add lots of flavor and texture on their own, and then there's the arugula. A touch spicy, peppery, and super fresh, it adds another element of yummy goodness. The leafy greens also upgrade pizza with a contrasting texture you don't get from many other options. Altogether, Giada's picks lead to a tasty, well-rounded pizza that oozes professional flair.
As a celebrity chef, I expected nothing short of spectacular from Giada De Laurentiis's pizza toppings of choice. Thankfully, she didn't disappoint, and that's more than I can say for the chef in last place. Giada's preferences also surpass the other lower-ranking picks in terms of quality and creativity — barring Jennifer Lawrence, of course — and that earned her a firm middle-of-the-road spot on our list. I may be vegetarian, but I can still admit this would be a popular pizza for many.
6. Post Malone: Stuffed crust
Next up is none other than Post Malone, and I have to admit, he's a man after my heart — both in terms of talent and his pizza order. In a Mythical Kitchen video, he describes his idea of a "last meal," and stuffed crust pizza makes the list. He doesn't specify his preferred toppings, but pepperoni is clearly visible in the video. Regardless, stuffed crust is a pizza style with plenty of mass appeal, and I can certainly understand why.
Stuffed crust pizza also excels in flavor and texture. The mozzarella tucked inside the crust adds another layer of gooey, salty cheese, making every bite that much more satisfying. Better yet, you can load it up with just about any toppings you like, so it's an easy crowd-pleaser. I know it is a favorite of mine, and I'm not above grabbing one from the frozen aisle, either.
Compared with the celebrity pizza orders that ranked below it, Post Malone's choice checks more of my ranking boxes, so awarding it sixth place was a no-brainer. But don't get too comfortable, because the top five are where things really get interesting.
5. Richard Blais: Pepperoni, pineapple, hot honey, and ranch dressing
A fellow cohort of Gordon Ramsay's, celebrity chef Richard Blais also revealed his favorite pizza toppings in the same Hell's Kitchen Underground reel we discussed earlier. Blais goes for pepperoni, pineapple, hot honey, and ranch dressing, and as you can see from his fifth-place ranking, he fared much better than the show's host (my apologies, Ramsay).
Before you feel the urge to argue, I know pineapple is a controversial pizza topping. I mean, even Blais acknowledges the potential backlash, saying, "Half of America is going to be so upset right now" before revealing his toppings of choice. Ramsay openly shows his disgust, but I'm one of those people who love pineapple on pizza, particularly when it's paired with something spicy. That sweet-and-spicy combo can be downright drool-worthy, and the hot honey doesn't pack a mean punch, either, so even people with a more sensitive palate should be able to enjoy its heat. Then there's the ranch. Umm... yes, please! Pepperoni is already a crowd-pleaser, so no surprises there. But all four together? Genius.
Blais' topping combination brings bold flavors, contrasting textures, and plenty of saucy goodness. As a result, it is the first celebrity order to break into the top half of our list, but believe me, things are about to get even tastier.
4. Sombr: Plain cheese
The handsomely awkward Sombr is making quite a splash in the music world right now, so I had to know if he eats pizza and what his go-to order is. Fortunately, what I learned didn't disappoint. This is fourth place, after all. On TikTok, he shared his favorite pizza order, and guess what? It was plain cheese. That may sound a bit on the boring side at first, but hear me out before you write it off.
I know plain cheese pizza doesn't boast as many textures or flavors as one loaded up with a mix of additional toppings. Still, it is simplicity at its finest. Without extra stuff getting in the way, you can judge a slice by its base ingredients. With nothing to hide behind, the crust, sauce, and cheese have to be outstanding. Plus, you can always sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes, grated Parmesan, and oregano on top. I say taste the pizza as-is first, though. The best slices are built from the ground up, and if they can't shine with just the basics, is it really all that good? My guess is no. Sombr's dedication to the essential pizza elements shows he values attention to detail, too. No wonder his high kicks are so amazing.
3. Ed Sheeran: Margherita
The next singer-songwriter celebrity with a smashing pizza order is Ed Sheeran. In an Instagram video, he said he's a Margherita guy. As he sees it, "Why would you f*** with something that's perfect?" Similar to the cheese pizza we just covered but slightly better thanks to the addition of tomatoes and fresh basil, it hits all the classic hallmarks of a tasty pizza. The minimal toppings ensure you get excellent flavor from each base ingredient. If not, it's probably not the best pizza anyway. The added tomatoes and basil also give more bite and a touch of fresh sweetness. Yum!
Possibly best of all, many Margherita pizzas also feature fresh mozzarella cheese, which, by any standards, is a premium ingredient. It's salty, a hint of sweet, and gooey to the max. The pizza style doesn't go overboard on the cheese, either, so the sauce plays a bigger role. Since I'm a saucy lady, that earned it more than a few points in my ranking. Sheeran also notes in the video that he likes square slices. While this is not a common trait for classic Margherita pizzas, it is good for a party, so no love lost there.
2. Beyoncé: Extra tomato sauce and jalapeños
The second-place award goes to another musical goddess: Beyoncé. In a BEAT Magazine interview, she revealed that one of her favorite things to do on a Sunday is to "eat pizza." As for toppings, she likes extra tomato sauce and jalapeños. Since many know she's a spicy lady — she sings about carrying hot sauce in her purse — the jalapeños aren't all too surprising, but the extra sauce is a nice touch, and both add more flavor and texture. Admittedly, jalapeños aren't as wildly popular as some other pizza toppings, but in this case, I don't mind. The extra marinara will tone down the heat a bit, and you don't have to go overboard. Even a single chunk of jalapeño per slice will lead to mouth-watering results.
Since I just shared my love for extra-saucy pizzas (in my third-place evaluation) and how much I like heat, Beyoncé's second-place ranking shouldn't be too surprising. However, I'll dive a bit deeper into why upping the sauce is a great idea. For starters, no one likes a dry pizza. Including more marinara ensures you get more than a mouthful of cheese and toppings in every bite, and it also makes the crust more delicious. So, all things considered, Beyoncé has a solid pizza order. It may not be elaborate, but it brings tons of flavor and texture to every bite.
1. Rachael Ray: Mozzarella, provolone, pecorino, sweet peppers, hot cherry peppers, and red onions
The best celebrity pizza comes from Rachael Ray, and given that she's a chef, I'd say order has been restored in the culinary world. In an Instagram post, Ray shared the "thin crust pizza we've made for the past few years." Her toppings of choice? Mozzarella, provolone, pecorino, sweet peppers, hot cherry peppers, and red onions. The three-cheese blend is to die for, especially since each has a good salt level that amplifies flavors throughout the pie. The blend of hot and sweet peppers also gives us that "swicy" flavor combo that's so delicious and popular right now. Plus, the red onions add a zesty bite to the finished pie. Seriously, talk about texture and tasty pizzazz.
Of course, Ray doesn't dial it back on the sauce, either. She makes it from scratch, using raw passata or tomato sauce, oregano, garlic, salt, sugar, red pepper, and EVOO (her favorite). She doesn't cut corners, and that's sure to pay off in the long run — after all, the base is just as important as the toppings that accompany it. Fortunately, Ray knows this, and she came up with a banger of a pizza. I want one. Now. Something tells me the thought of it might have your mouth watering, too.
Methodology
Most of us won't change our eating habits just because a favorite celebrity recommends something, but knowing people's go-to pizza toppings is a pretty common question. Typically, we ask friends, but I wanted to see what a few celebrities had to say about the age-old question. After sifting through online publications and social media, I found quite a few public figures who had been open about the subject.
Once I had my list of celebrities and their pizza orders, I thought it would be fun to rank them from worst to best. For the most part, I focused on flavor and texture when placing each person on the list. The pizza orders that had plenty of both soared to the top. I also considered mass appeal and my personal preferences. After all, popularity counts. When push came to shove, not all of the contenders had choices I'd try, but they definitely made me curious.
Now that you know what a few of our beloved celebrities prefer in terms of pizza, maybe try ordering a pie from the list when you're out. Or, simply upgrade a frozen pizza with one of the topping combos. Either way, your palate will be flirting with the stars.
