For A Spicier McDonald's Egg McMuffin, Make This Easy Sauce Request
Where would we all be without the historic McDonald's breakfast, including the Egg McMuffin and its sister breakfast sandwiches, which come with bacon or sausage nestled between the English muffin, egg patty, and cheese layers? A lot hungrier in the mornings, for one. Whether the McMuffin is part of your regular breakfast ritual or just a once-in-a-while treat, the breakfast sandwich is hearty, as well as satisfying — if you're not into spice. However, if you like a little heat first thing in the morning, the McMuffin can be a letdown. It simply has no spicy elements. But you can easily request a packet or two of McDonald's Hot Picante Salsa if you'd prefer to set your mouth aflame before 10:30 a.m. (the typical time breakfast ends and lunch begins), and then manually squeeze it into the muffin's nooks and crannies before tucking in.
The main thing you want to keep in mind, though, is that McDonald's actually carries two versions of picante sauce: a spicy kind and a mild kind. This might not be quite as big of a deal if you're ordering in the app, because both are clearly labeled, or, more importantly, color-coded, with the hot picante in red and the mild in a green shade. However, if you're ordering at the drive-thru, you will want to be sure to specify that you want the hot salsa packets, just in case the McDonald's employee (who could very well be getting slammed in the midst of a breakfast rush) doesn't think to ask.
Other breakfast items that could benefit from some heat (plus more spicy options)
Aside from the McMuffin and all of its variants, there are actually quite a few McDonald's breakfast items that could benefit from a little heat. The biscuit sandwiches, for example, can actually be a bit of a dry bite (the sausage version doesn't even come with cheese), but adding salsa gives them some fiery lubrication, to say nothing of a flavor boost. The scrambled eggs on the Big Breakfast would also be extremely tasty with some picante drizzled over them. And finally, it might get a little messy, but a squirt of salsa on every crisp bite of a Hash Brown could definitely help you reach McDonald's breakfast nirvana.
If you feel, as some on the internet do, that McDonald's might have switched picante manufacturers at some point, and you're not a fan of the new one, you might try several other hot sauce options that are available all day, including during breakfast. Do you want your McMuffin to remind you of football and wings? Try the Spicy Buffalo sauce, whose first ingredient is cayenne red peppers. McDonald's also occasionally rolls out new, limited-time condiments, like the fiery Mighty Hot Sauce, with its blend of three spicy peppers, or the Nether Flame sauce, which includes chili peppers and cayenne red peppers.
