The handheld non-sandwich is easy to find at places like Sonic Drive-In and baseball games, but one of the places you'll often find them is at your nearest gas station. While it might not be the most glamorous place to grab a glizzy, plenty of people love a gas station hot dog, for the economical price, the speed of grabbing one, and the incredible flavor imparted by the rollers they cook on. 

The gas stations featured on this list are praised by hot dog connoisseurs for all of those reasons and more. So, the next time you stop to fuel the car and want something to fill your stomach, give one of these places a shot. 7-Eleven is one of the largest fuel and convenience store chains in the country. No matter the location, each one has a reputation for grab-and-go food, with things like mini beef tacos, pizza slices, and Big Bite hot dogs available around the clock. The famous Big Bite was introduced in the late 1980s, although the chain has been selling hot dogs since the early 1970s. Now, 7-Eleven sells more than 100 million hot dogs annually. 

Customers enjoy the customizable frankfurters for the low prices and the taste, as well as the large variety of toppings many stations carry. A first-time Big Bite diner took to Reddit to say how pleasantly surprised they were by the handheld meal. They said, "I was really surprised at the amount of toppings they had ... Customers have said that, "[QuikTrip] has the best roller grill items hands down." One Reddit user showed off their purchase, saying, "Freshly cooked beef dog. Just stopped in for an energy drink and seen Freshly cooked beef wieners for 2.15 a win win in my book." One of the most popular food stations is the chain's roller grill, which showcases an assortment of Schwab Meat Co.'s frankfurters and sausages. 

The hot dogs have quite a few fans, with some people making a point to stop at the travel centers for one. "I love these hotdogs from Love's Travel Stops," a Facebook user declared. "Ever since I had my first one a few days ago I've been looking out for them as we continue the tour." Another person said, "[Love's] has the best all beef hotdogs."

RaceTrac has been around since 1934, but the expansive chain didn't start serving many of its food offerings until 2004. Now, guests can get a quick, hot meal at any hour, with treats like chicken sandwiches, pizza, and a variety of roller items. The fuel center sells a jalapeño sausage along with Nathan's 100% beef frankfurters. 

People are impressed with the low prices for hot dogs at RaceTrac, with some locations offering two for around $3. Fans say the handheld meal is great to take on the road, and one Facebook user declared, "Can't beat their hotdogs with all the toppings." Another Facebook user proclaimed, "[RaceTrac] gas station has the absolute best hot dogs ever, the [jalapeño] dog is the bomb. I got two." One person even called the treat glorious, while others commented about how beautiful and tasty the hot dogs are. Even those who normally don't enjoy a frankfurter say these are good and that they'll go back for another. 

With more than 800 locations, Maverik fuel centers are easy to find in any of the 20 states the brand operates in. It's one of the oldest chains on this list and was established in the late 1920s. It sells a large assortment of hot foods, including its own BonFire label. Items like burritos, wraps, pizzas, and more can be bought individually or as part of one of the brand's value meal deals. If you're in the market for a hot dog, Maverik has regular frankfurters, as well as Polish, cheddar, and cheddar-jalapeño sausages, as part of a $5 combo that comes with a bag of chips and a 20-ounce Pepsi product. 

Fans of the brand say, "They have good quality dogs, and their condiment bar is better than any other gas stations that I've seen." A Reddit user echoed a similar sentiment, stating, "[Maverik] dogs are surprisingly decent when they're fresh, and they have a really extensive topping bar. If I'm on like, a $3 or $4 lunch budget, it's one of the better options out there. Honestly one of the better gas station dogs I've ever had."

But that's not all on-the-go diners reach for here. The chain serves Johnsonville brats and hot dogs that people love, too. The hot dogs come by themselves or as part of a $3 meal deal with a bag of chips and a Polar Pop of your choice. 

People enjoy the roller dogs at the stores, with one Reddit user proclaiming, "I started trying roller hotdogs at Circle K and got hooked. I have been there the last two weeks almost consistently every day because of how good the roller jalapeño sausage cheddar sausages are." A Facebook user said, "Just got a cheesy hot dog from [Circle K] by the park and all I can say is it hit the spot better than the fast food here in town." 

ampm (sometimes spelled am/pm) is a convenience store chain associated with ARCO gas stations, primarily operating on the West Coast. It opened in 1978 and focuses on hot foods for its customers. The brand sells a variety of all-beef hot dogs like the Tapatio, a spicy frankfurter. If you're in the Los Angeles area, the chain also carries Dodger Dogs, a 10-inch-long wiener that was exclusively sold at Dodger Stadium until partnering with the convenience store. 

People enjoy the different frankfurters the ampm offers, with the spicy Tapatio being mentioned favorably in multiple reviews. Fans say it is actually spicy and that you can see the spices in the wiener. The Dodger Dogs also get praise from diners, but they caution that the meal can be very messy.
