Germany Is Home To The World's Only Moving Chair Restaurant

If you've ever been to Disney World or Disneyland, picture the Haunted Mansion where you glide through spooky chambers in your own personal moving buggy, and Soarin' Around the World where you fly over Earth's great sights. Now combine the two rides, replace their scenes with entirely new worlds, and add in some extremely unique culinary creations.

That's Eatrenalin: the world's first and only moving chair restaurant in Rust, Germany. Inspired by the Voletarium next door in Europa-Park (which is similar to America's Soarin' Around the World), owners Thomas Mack and Oliver Altherr came up with the idea for a new multi-sensory journey — one that combines magical worlds with exquisite gastronomy.

This theme-park-ride-meets-fine-dining-restaurant is truly a one-of-a-kind culinary experience meant to engage and wow all the senses. And with high-class courses to taste, skillfully conducted worlds to take in, and a patented Floating Chair to move you through it all, it's safe to say that Eatrenalin does just that.

Eatrenalin: floating chairs and sensory worlds

Dinner at Eatrenalin isn't just dinner. It's not even just dinner and a show. It's a special sensory event of epic proportions that's unlike anything else you've experienced. The whole night lasts around two to three hours as you float from room to room in Eatrenalin's exclusive Floating Chairs — large, gliding chairs complete with individual tables that provide an almost-weightless experience through each new dimension, each filled with secret compartments and surprises along the way.

Guests arrive at the Lounge and start with an aperitif to kick things off, followed by the Waterfall: an auditory experience to metaphorically wash the senses clean and prepare for the journey ahead. Then the chairs start floating as diners are launched into a dimension of Discovery.

From there, guests are whisked away to discover five more impressive worlds. Ocean is an immersive experience of deep seas and sandy scenes. Next is Taste where intense and unexpected flavors lead the way. Then, it's onto Umami, an Asia-inspired world studded with green rice paddies. Next up is the Universe where you're transported all the way to space. And finally, Incarnation, a transformative dessert course to end the journey.

Eatrenalin's exquisite eats

Co-founder Thomas Mack believes that "you taste food and drinks differently depending on your environment" (per Travel + Leisure). So, as if the technical production alone isn't enough, each of the worlds you experience are paired with an impressive eight-course menu and corresponding drinks (with various menu experiences to choose from).

In the Lounge, you'll be greeted with an "indulgent introduction" like asparagus, Jaipur curry, and crispy caviar on sourdough. During the Waterfall, a "ritual for the palate" could be composed of apple, shiso, and macadamia. For a "magical revelation" in the world of Discovery, you'll be presented with a fire sphere complete with Szechuan pepper blossom, and you'll enjoy "sensuality from the depths of the sea" like algae, king crab, or lobster as you plunge into the Ocean.

Then come "small explosions of flavor" — balls of sweet, sour, bitter, and salty — as you discover the world of Taste. Umami will bring you "Asia's fifth dimension:" creations like sashimi with Japanese pickles, chawanmushi with crispy corn, and dim sum. Things like veal, black truffle, and comet shards will make up "mysteries from space" in the Universe dimension. And finally, a "sweet transformation" of pineapple, crispy rice, and kaffir lime will finish off dinner in the Incarnation room.
