Chicken Cordon Bleu might not actually be French in origin (it may actually hail from Switzerland), but that doesn't make this very chic-sounding dish any less delicious. Its main components include chicken, ham, and cheese, plus some breading, and these simple ingredients have been translated into a number of spin-off dishes, like casseroles and sandwiches. But have you ever considered taking McDonald's breakfast foods and turning Cordon Bleu into a McMuffin? You absolutely can, and even if it isn't quite authentic, it's a protein-packed way to start your day.

And it's all possible thanks to McDonald's bringing back a fan-favorite breakfast menu item: The McChicken Biscuit, which debuted in 2020, before getting pulled, re-trialed in parts of the U.S., and released nationwide once again in 2025. You need this essential component for the chicken patty, which gets paired with a basic Egg McMuffin, the historic and iconic McDonald's breakfast sandwich that features an English muffin, an egg disc, and the other necessary Cordon Bleu elements: the cheese and the "ham" — in this case, Canadian bacon.

You'll end up with about 26 grams of protein between two pieces of bread, which rivals some of the fast food cheeseburgers with the most protein. You might even order a little tub of honey mustard (here's how much extra it might cost you) to manually apply to the sandwich, as it mimics the Dijon-forward sauce that often comes on actual Cordon Bleu.

How to order and assemble the Cordon Bleu-style McMuffin

There are actually two ways to order the Cordon Bleu-style McMuffin: An app-only method and a drive-thru speaker version. To order this off-menu McMuffin through the app, you'll just need to add the classic McMuffin with Canadian bacon, as well as the McChicken Biscuit, to your cart. Easy-peasy.

Then, to build it — which you should be able to do in your car because there aren't any particularly saucy elements, except what you might add once it's all assembled — you'll just take the chicken patty out from between the two pieces of biscuit and redistribute it among the McMuffin stack, really wherever you can cleanly peel the sandwich apart. As mentioned, you might add some sauce on top, but if that's not your jam (or you want to keep it as mess-free as possible), you can start chowing down. You might save the biscuit as a side for lunch or dinner later, too.

The drive-thru speaker method for ordering this entree-inspired McMuffin actually removes the necessity of putting the sandwich together yourself. When ordering, ask for a classic McMuffin, and then request that they include a McChicken Biscuit chicken patty on the sandwich (if you're really going for broke, you can also request an extra piece of cheese!). Ordering it through the drive-thru is definitely easier, but it does necessitate some human interaction if you're up for it that early in the morning.
