Subway Debuts Footlong Churros And Pretzels In New Sidekicks Menu

If 12 inches of bread stuffed with meat, veggies, and cheese isn't enough to satisfy your appetite, Subway has you covered with its new Sidekicks menu that will be rolling out on January 22, 2024. The menu, featuring snacks that are a foot long — much like the chain's famous footlong sandwiches — brings back the Footlong Cookie, and also introduces two new items in collaboration with Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon.

Subway previously offered a 12-inch oblong chocolate chip cookie for free with the purchase of footlong sub as a promotion on National Cookie Day (December 4). Now, it's a permanent menu item available for $5. And if you're looking for something else sweet to snack on, you can chow down on a giant churro for cheap. The new Cinnabon Footlong Churro, served warm and covered in sweet cinnamon, will only put a $2 dent in your wallet.

If you're often lured in by the aroma of Auntie Anne's freshly-baked soft pretzels while walking through the mall or along a boardwalk, you'll be glad to hear about the new footlong pretzel on the Sidekicks menu. Salty and basted with butter, the savory pretzel is served with a side of Subway's Honey Mustard sauce and clocks in at just $3.

Subway's other changes in recent years

Subway has been working to elevate its brand for several years, kicking off its transformation efforts in 2021 with its Eat Fresh Refresh campaign. The campaign featured a roll-out of two new breads, elevated condiments, and the introduction of several new sandwiches and other build-your-own ingredients like fresh mozzarella. It also upgraded its digital ordering system to improve the customer experience.

In the two years following the kickoff of Eat Fresh Refresh, Subway got to work on further improving its menu by offering freshly-sliced deli meat. In the summer of 2023, the brand announced that it had installed slicers in all of its franchises and began serving four new sandwiches featuring fresh meats like turkey, ham, and roast beef, in an effort to provide an experience like that of a good deli.

Subway's most recent menu additions seem to be the start of another year of change for the brand. Douglas Fry, President of Subway North America, said in a press release, "2024 may be the most exciting chapter yet in our growth story."
