Fox News Discovers Madison, Wisconsin Is A Farm-To-Table Powerhouse. Well, Duh.

We're not here to judge the politics of Fox News Channel. We're here to judge the food writing of Fox News Channel. Our judgment? They got one really right when they called out Madison, Wisconsin as a "top foodie paradise" for farm-to-table dining. Writes Nicole Rupersburg:

"Surrounded by farmland and natural resources, farm-to-table dining in Madison is a no-brainer. It's not a gimmick or a good PR move, as it has become in so many other places. It's just the natural state of things."

When we caught up with Madison chef Tory Miller last November, he was still glowing after receiving the James Beard Award for Best Chef Midwest, an enormous honor for the chef of L'Etoile and Graze. In beating out competition from much larger cities like Kansas City, Milwaukee and Minneapolis, Miller — who worked under Bill Telepan before spending nearly a decade in Wisconsin capital — had finally brought national attention to his city of only 200,000. Enter FNC, who drop a respectable guide to the city's eating and drinking establishments. The top 10 includes:

1. Dane County Farmers Market

2. Underground Food Collective: Forequarter, Underground Butcher

3. L'Etoile and Graze

4. The Old Fashioned

5. Cooper's Tavern

6. Merchant

7. Fromagination (yes, that name!)

8. Brasserie V

9. Death's Door Spirits

10. A Pig in a Fur Coat

In related foodie paradise news, NJ.com called the Hudson Valley a foodie paradise in a recent story. They got that one right too. We'll let you know about this budding foodie paradise rivalry.
