Counter Culture Coffee Hits The Road In October With The Variety Show
Even if you are unfamiliar with Counter Culture Coffee, it is likely you have been to one of the many fine dining establishments that carry its products. The highly regarded roaster — co-owner Peter Giuliano topped a recent edition of our Coffee Power Rankings — has always stressed education as one of its core missions and is hosting a free and open-to-the-public series of events in October, titled "The Variety Show." Led by 2013 World Brewers Cup Champion Erin McCarthy and the owners of Finca El Puente coffee farm in Honduras, the workshops will offer insight on farming experiences, descriptions (and tastes!) of 10 different coffee varieties, brewing tips and competition knowledge.
In addition to the variety of coffees available at each stop of the eight-city tour, there will be light food and beverages served. There will also be a pop-up shop with whole bean coffee, small wares and merchandise. Raffle tickets at each event will benefit the World Coffee Research Association and prizes include top-of-the-line coffee brewers, grinders, kettles and other items from Counter Culture. A grand prize drawing — for a personal coffee brewing experience in the winner's home with Erin McCarthy — will take place at the final event in New York.
Events take place from 7-9 p.m. at each location:
Saturday, October 5 – Durham Training Center
Monday, October 7 – Atlanta Training Center
Wednesday, October 9 – Asheville Training Center
Friday, October 11 – Chicago Training Center
Sunday, October 13 – Washington, DC Training Center
Tuesday, October 15 – Philadelphia Training Center
Thursday, October 17 – Boston Training Center
Saturday, October 19 – New York Training Center
