Video: How The World's Agriculture Is Protected Against The Zombie Apocalypse
The Norwegian island of Spitsbergen is one of the most remote destinations in the world. If you look on the map it's basically as far north as man can travel. It is here, amid ice, reindeer and likely some pretty hard drinking, that stands the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The underground cave — situated 390 feet below the surface — is essentially a Noah's Ark for the world's agriculture, a climate-controlled tomb where seeds from every major growing region in the world remain protect from global crisis. Here filmmakers David Osit and Caleb Heller, follow Cary Fowler of the Global Crop Diversity Trust for a tour. Osit's film is a finalist in the Focus Forward Short Film Competition.
