Word Of The Day: Coffee Cherry

You mean coffee beans don't grow pre-roasted on the tree? Sadly, no. Coffee beans are not actually beans. Beans don't grow on trees, remember. Too early for you? Pour yourself a cup and gather 'round.

Coffee cherries are berries from the coffee tree which typically have two seeds. The seeds, or "beans," are harvested from the berries and processed to make the coffee we know and depend on. Coffee cherry does sound like an ice cream flavor we could get into. Actual coffee cherry, though, not unroasted berry seed.
