Word Of The Day: Hydroponic

We know what you're thinking, and no, that's not the only way hydroponics come into play.

Hydroponic is a combination of the Latin word "hydro" meaning water, and "pono" which means to put into, so in this case, to put into water (as opposed to soil.) Hydroponics involve plants that are cultivated in nutrient-rich solutions under controlled lighting, temperature and humidity, resulting in greens that are easier to harvest with no nutritional pollution released into the environment. Other advantages include lower water costs as water can be reused, reliably high yields and no pesticide damage. Next time you're at the grocery store look out for hydroponic lettuce, it is always labeled and usually packaged individually.
