Chopped Takes On Healthy School Lunches

Cafeteria chefs have been getting a bad rap ever since the term "mystery meat" was coined, but in tonight's episode of Chopped four lunch ladies will prove that school food doesn't have to be a source of terror.

Unlike venerated celebrity chefs, these women face difficult daily challenges to keep all of their students healthy and full. Each one of the chefs is changing the face of cafeteria food by serving restaurant-quality meals with fresh produce to every child in their schools. Their particpation on Chopped will raise much needed awareness for childhood hunger and lack of nutrition.

White House chef Sam Kass and Amanda Freitag will join our friend Marc Murphy as judges for this episode. "This special episode of Chopped was incredibly emotional to film, especially considering what superheroes these women are that work in our public school systems," Murphy tells us. "It's truly amazing seeing what they do every day for our kids and for our country, and it's extremely important that we continue to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating for children, especially within the school system."
