FR Style Inventory: 'Hedwig And The Angry Inch' Makeup Genius Mike Potter

We always have style on the brain at FR headquarters, so from time to time we reach out to our stylish friends to hear about their favorite designers, as well as their thoughts on food and drink. Next up, Mike Potter. He's the wig and makeup artist extraordinaire who glams up Neil Patrick Harris for the Tony Award–winning Broadway smash Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Do you prefer to cook at home or go out?

Go out.

Favorite restaurants and bars?

Roebling Tea Room. I love their steak tartare – it's my favorite dish in New York – and their New Age Traveler cocktail (whiskey-based with lemon and an Earl Grey syrup) is awesome. Ontario Bar is dirty and fun. My friends are bartenders there.

Besides Roebling's New Age Traveler, what else is your drink of choice?

Jameson and ginger beer.

And what else, besides Roebling's steak tartare, do you like to eat?

I also love potato chips. And chocolate chip cookies. But I try to eat healthy, most of the time.

Alright, who are your style icons?

Karen O and Christian Joy because they're punk, colorful and beautiful.

Favorite labels?

Gary Graham. Victor & Rolf. Hanes.

Shoes of choice?

Paul Smith, because they're classic.

And how about accessories?

Baseball caps.

Could you talk about your grooming regimen?

Too many steps to be brief, but I love scrubs. And products from Chanel and Mario Badescu. La Mer has a lifting serum that's amazing.

Favorite fragrances?

I love Fracas, and my new favorite is Nirvana White by Elizabeth and James.

Last splurge?

A stingray iPhone cover.

Anything you'd never wear?

Square-toed shoes.

What's your daily uniform?

Jeans and a V-neck tee.

What's your one style tip to guys?

Exfoliate.
