Video: Behind The Scenes At Mario Batali's Favorite Restaurant In Rome, La Pergola

In 2012 we introduced you to Heinz Beck, the most famous Roman chef you probably have never heard about. German-born, but living in Italy for decades, Beck runs the three–Michelin star La Pergola in Rome's opulent Cavalieri Hotel. It's the only restaurant to be awarded the big three and, as we find out in this video, it's Mario Batali's favorite restaurant in the city. "I am generally averse to Michelin three-star dining experiences," writes Batali on his blog. "There's a stuffiness I've actively resisted for years. But La Pergola is different. The wood-paneled dining room, literally at the highest point in the Italian capital, harmonizes with the remarkable plates imagined by Chef Beck." Batali was offered a rare behind-the-scenes tour, which is documented here.
