Feeding Time At The Electric Zoo 2013

[Editor's note: There are several reports coming out of this weekend's Electric Zoo festival about drug overdoses and now a sexual assault. That said, we were on hand for the food, and before the festival was cut short, our correspondent and many others enjoyed great food and music, so in service to those who worked hard at the festival and likely will take a financial hit, we're featuring this recap.]

Had I known the 5th epic year of New York City's Electric Zoo music festival would be cut short a day, I would have eaten so, so much more. You really have to balance stuffing your face and dancing directly in the spray of confetti to maintain a good time. If you're going to throw a weekend-long EDM show in this city, it's safe to assume that the crowd of about 100,000 people in constant funky motion can and will pack away a huge amount of excellent, varied, and yes, even healthy cuisine.

We hit up Brooklyn Bangers for cheese-spiked dogs, Fishing Shrimp for Southern-fried seafood tacos, the crazy assembly line at Chickpea Falafel, the freaks at Banh Mi Freaks and others (but we had so many more to hit up!) Consolation prize: chowing down to the sets of FR favorites Dada Life, Boys Noize and Markus Schulz.

I made a joke last year about not sticking your fingers in the cage. This year, I landed myself on the menu, receiving a completely unsolicited bite from one particularly enthusiastic festivalgoer (screw you, festivalgoer! Now I have a giant rainbow bruise on my forearm). I'll reiterate: don't tempt the animals; just feed them, and feed them well.
