Exclusive: Urbanspoon Announces Most Popular U.S. Restaurant Bars
Food Republic is the first to report that Urbanspoon will announce its list of Most Popular Restaurant Bars in the United States later today. Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, the list includes 200 bars — spanning 101 cities and 33 states — that received the most coverage and reviews from professional food critics, bloggers, the Urbanspoon community and diners.
Urbanspoon looked at over 7,500 U.S. restaurants with bars in order to compile the list. In addition to an 85% or more "like" requirement by users, establishments went through a rating system that included user reviews, blog posts, up votes, down votes and pageviews.
Florida claims the most spots on the list, with 31 entries ranging from restaurants to speakeasies to Irish pubs. Ohio and Missouri also claim a large number of inclusions, with 14 and 13 respectively. Some Food Republic favorites are on here too — see links to related stories, as well as some interviews with owners and chefs — but we're perplexed by the lack of (our hometown) New York City entries. Though maybe it's about time that one listicle doesn't feature any bar/restaurants from Brooklyn(?!).
Anyway, some features that are awarded by the Urbanspoon community are bars with 10+ beers on tap and European/domestic specialty beers. On the liquor side, there is an emphasis placed on specialty cocktail programs, house-infused spirits and simplified takes on classic cocktails.
