Clare McNulty isn’t facing a quarter-life crisis; instead, she’s hitting her comedic stride and following her dreams, unlike her character in Fort Tilden. The film, which was awarded the Grand Jury Prize for narrative feature at the 2014 SXSW film festival, features McNulty and Bridey Elliot as two friends who skip out on their responsibilities for a day at a New York City beach. This comedy is set in Brooklyn — where McNulty currently resides — and takes the girls around the city as they struggle to reach the ocean and get their lives together in the process. Thanks to the film, which hits theaters August 14, both McNulty and Elliott were named potential breakout stars by the Huffington Post. Since starting to pursue her passions, McNulty has taken her comedic skills to both coasts, working with a number of theater companies, such as the Ten Bones Theatre Company. Last year, she also had a cameo in the popular web and soon-to-be-television series High Maintenance.

In Fort Tilden, you hit up some locations in and around Brooklyn, so what’s your favorite place in Brooklyn?
As a little bit of a homebody, I’m a pretty big fan of my local bar, Sycamore, in Ditmas Park. It’s one of the chillest, friendliest places around.

The girls spend a day trying to get to Fort Tilden. How would you spend your ideal day?
My ideal day would start with me coming into an enormous amount of money. After that, you know, hiking, swimming in some lake and antiquing. I’m my mother.

What is the best song to jam out to?
Probably “No Scrubs” by TLC? Right?

What show are you currently binge-watching?
I just finished the amazing The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and I can’t wait to watch the new Wet Hot American Summer episodes. Also, the X-Files reboot cannot arrive fast enough.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
I went to a friend’s cabin in Nantucket once two years ago, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. She’s probably getting tired of me mentioning it.

All I know is I fucking hate Settlers of Catan.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Just good old willpower, you know?

What movie can you always rewatch?

What’s your favorite joke?
I work with this security guard who grew up in Israel. We were talking about differences in our worldviews, and he said, “For instance, before I came to America, I had never heard this phrase ‘anxiety attack.’ I was asking everybody, ‘What is this anxiety attack?'” He wasn’t making a judgment; he was genuinely trying to understand. I thought that was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.

If you could attend any event in history, what event would you go to?
My late grandpa was a congressman before I was born. I would’ve loved to be around to see him get sworn in.

What would be in your signature sandwich?
I just love a good bagel and lox, so the whole bit: everything bagel, cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, red onions, lox. It’s my go-to hangover food.
