Yesterday the food media world was buzzing about the epic (and this is not one of those throw-away epics) surprise pop-up dinners held in New York City. Eater and The New Yorker have great recaps, but the basics are this. Wylie Dufresne is the much-loved chef/owner of wd~50, an 11-year-old pioneering restaurant on New York’s Lower East Side. He’s the friend of many. So many, in fact, that more than 30 chefs flew in from around the world to surprise him with a tribute dinner. In attendence: Daniel Boulud (Daniel), Inaki Aizpitarte (Le Chateaubriand), René Redzepi (Noma), Magnus Nilsson (Fäviken), David Chang (Momofuku) and Daniel Patterson (Coi). Serious shit went down. Here is a great video with some of the highlights.
