Steven Rinella takes the TV star on a long walk
Apr 24, 2013 1:01 pm

Steven Rinella is host of the TV show MeatEater on Sportsman Channel. He likes to take celebrities to places like Alaska, New Zealand and the Missouri Breaks in Montana to teach them all about the art of hunting, and cooking, wild game. On the season finale, Rinella hangs out with Joe Rogan (host of Fear Factor and UFC commentator). Rogan is a pretty badass dude, but surprisingly had never hunted in his life.

In 2012 Chris Hastings won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: South for his work at the Hot and Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, Alabama. From time to time we have him write in to tell us what is on his mind, and on his stove.

Catching Up with Chris Hughes of Broken Arrow Ranch
Oct 26, 2012 10:01 am

Chris Hughes is owner of Broken Arrow Ranch, one of the country's most lauded wild game providers. As he likes to say, there are two ways to cook game meat: a little or a lot. He knows that, unless you’re slow-cooking a braising cut, it’s best to go bloody with game meat. His company sells venison, which is meat from deer or antelope, plus wild boar and quail. We recently chatted about eating wild animals.

The Wish List: Hunting Edition

How to look good and stay alive while hunting
Apr 20, 2012 4:01 pm

Lately we've been spotting a lot of guys around Brooklyn who look like they're getting ready to go on a hunting trip. This despite the fact that most hunting seasons don't kick off til fall. Never mind. Whether you're heading out to bag your own turkey, deer or elk, or if you're just hunting that seasonal special at a hot restaurant, it never hurts to look good...

Substitute any antlered game if you feel wild

This isn’t your everyday stew, but it’s perfect for the really cold months and for large gatherings when you have a lot of people to feed. Georgia Pellegrini

On Pheasant Hunting and Pot Pie

This week: Tom goes pheasant hunting

As if thirteen wasn’t unlucky enough. Sometime between Peoria and Des Moines it occurred to me there might be something peculiar about going hunting with the county coroner and a life insurance salesman. The only piece to that triumvirate to be missing was the preacher, but he is more apt to go deer hunting.
