The Ultimate Deep-Fryer Frenzy Experiment

Ramen, ice cream bars, a McDonald's breakfast sandwich, avocado, a Vegemite sandwich, a cupcake and a whole head of cauliflower. What do all these foods have in common? Nothing, you say? Try again. They are all involved in the making of the crispy, golden-brown (read: ridiculous) video below, sent to us by our friends at ChefSteps.

In the video, a few chefs go to town deep-frying just about every food imaginable. It's an experiment that makes us reconsider exactly what we've been doing all these years in our test kitchens. Predictably, a couple items (s'mores, for example) turn out to be unmitigated disasters, while others (cupcakes, ham and cheese sandwiches with drizzled maple syrup, cinnamon rolls topped with bacon) come out fabulously delectable. All in all, it's seven minutes of food porn in its purest form, sure to have you salivating and craving something — anything — deep-fried for lunch. Side note: Is there anything more soothing than listening to the gentle sounds of something deep-frying in oil?
