These Are Australia's 18 Best New Restaurants

As we've reported several times before, Australia serves more than just bloomin' onions, shrimps on the barbie and whatever else is on the menu at Outback Steakhouse. The restaurant scene there is flourishing as a whole, and we even pondered whether the country is the next great venue for whiskey production back in 2012.

Yesterday, national airline Qantas released a list of the country's best new restaurants. From vegetarian to Chinese to native Australian to Korean, the list boasts an impressively wide variety of cuisines and highlights a few Michelin-starred chefs along the way. Check out the list below, broken down by region.

As if you needed another reason to make the trip down under, René Redzepi and his team at Noma will be setting up shop at Bangaroo in Sydney for a ten-week pop-up starting in January, according to Eater. The pop-up will center around local Australian offerings such as "coastal shellfish [and] Tasmanian pepper leaf," the website reports.
