Fast Food Afternoon Romp: Doritos Locos Tacos Doritos (And Beyond)

I did a double-take when I opened up the box Doritos sent us earlier this week. Inside were two bags of what appeared to be Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch...only they were so much more. They were limited-edition Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos-flavored Doritos. ::head explodes::

We cracked open the bags, which is an interesting Freudian slip because the Nacho Cheese Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos-flavored Doritos turned out to be just that: crack. While there were two flavors co-mingling in there — original Nacho Cheese and ...sigh, do I have to say it again? Nacho Cheese Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos-flavored Doritos, we found ourselves picking out and eating the latter because of their uncanny resemblance to Taco Bell's crunchy tacos, which, while barely food, are indeed delicious.

We took turns huffily plopping the bags on others' desks when it was clear that the hand-to-mouth thing wouldn't stop of our own accords. It was like eating a crunchy taco with every bite, without getting any barely-food stuck in our keyboards.

Cool Ranch...god, Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos-flavored Doritos, were a bit of a bust. Is "intern chow" derogatory? Yes? They didn't have the inexplicably beefy (or beef-esque, whatever) flavor their orange brethren so forcefully boasted. Matt even put in an email to the PR company asking if the TBDLTFDs contained any meat ingredients (they do not). I would have written "meat" ingredients, but then again, I reached for the red bag again and again.

"Please take these!" I implored Editorial Director Richard Martin, and he did.

Five minutes later.

"I'm putting these back over here," he said, and I resumed eating them. We barely make it through any samples, but we finished the HELL out of these. Here are two things I would now consider:

  1. Putting them in an empty pepper grinder, Cheetos'-style and grinding them over Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos tacos. I'm not actually typing out the name of this creation because I have other deadlines today.
  2. Creating a Doritos Locos Taco shell out of Nacho Cheese Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos-flavored Doritos for Nacho Cheese Taco Bell Doritos Locos Tacos-flavored Doritos Squared. ::head re-explosion::

Verdict: buy and hoard Nacho Cheese TBDLTFDs. Hey, that rhymes!
