5 Current Food-Related Kickstarter Projects Worth Funding
From Paleo food carts to bourbon ketchup
We’re fans of Kickstarter here at Food Republic. The website is the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects, allowing users (dreamers?) to outline ambitious projects, along with a requested total donation amount from visitors, who are often able to give as little as $1. Bigger donators are rewarded with perks, such as exclusive free samples of products and invitations to private gatherings. Ideas are only funded if the required amount is reached by a set time, and users get their money back if the goal is not attained. Here are five of our favorite food-related projects on Kickstarter that still need your help.
Help Rebuild La Newyorkina’s Kitchen
La Newyorkina has sold all-natural Mexican ice pops — paletas — in New York since 2010. The wide variety of often funky flavors include avocado, mango with chile and cajeta (caramelized goat’s milk). Hurricane Sandy devastated La Newyorkina’s industrial kitchen in Red Hook and owner Fany Gerson is looking for funding towards a new paletera, the store’s most important piece of equipment.
Caveman Cafeteria: 1st Paleo Stand On Denver’s 16th Street Mall
The Caveman Cafeteria in Denver is seeking to become the first Paleo food cart, offering a “hunter and gatherer” menu seven days of the week. They are trying to raise money to purchase a concession trailer, a generator, restaurant equipment and initial food and rent costs.
Mamu Thai Noodle Truck: Noodles From Thailand To The Streets Of NYC
After scouring Bangkok for the best noodle recipes, Mamu Thai is hoping to open a food truck in New York City serving these dishes. They have purchased a truck and received the required permits, and are now looking for support to fund expenses such as a refrigerator, kitchen supplies and commissary fees.
Foraging & Feasting: A Field Guide And Wild Food Cookbook
Dina Falconi is an expert in wild-plant identification, foraging and cooking. Wendy Hollender has spent the past 15 years as a botanical illustrator. Together, the two have spent three years writing, drawing, designing and testing a book of recipes and illustrations to celebrate wild plants and creative ways to bring them into our lives. They are asking for money to raise the necessary capital to make the book a reality.
That Bourbon Ketchup
Dan Petersen has spent the past few years serving up burgers and fries as part of That Burger inside of Billy Hurricane’s and Idle Hands Bar in New York’s East Village. After introducing a few sauces to his menu that have gotten rave reviews, he decided to launch That Sauce Company to bring some of these sauces to people’s homes. His first goal is to share his first and most popular sauce – bourbon ketchup – with the public.
