Modern Farmer is a print quarterly and website devoted to the people, policy, animals, plants and technology that revolve around the world of farming. Scheduled to debut their first issue in Spring 2013, the newly launched media company has created a Tumblr page to announce that the seeds are in the soil. So far, there are hints that the debut issue will tackle a range of topics including 19th Century cattle breeding to "what kind of animal poop can you use for fertilizer." There's also a Twitter at @ModFarm.

Mod Farm (that has a ring) will highlight the connections between what people eat, how people live and how people can avoid trashing the planet — tackling issues of global agriculture, food security, localism and urban farming. Modern Farmer is founded on the belief that people want to know where their food comes from and how they can grow it themselves.

Editor-in-chief and founder Ann-Marie Gardner declined to be interviewed at this time, saying that the editorial team is busy "keeping their heads down" prior to launch. More information will be available closer to harvest. We'll be sure to pass it along.
