Sinden Keeps His 'High Snax Drawer' Stocked With Sour Punch Straws
British DJ digs quality sushi, pepperoncinis
British producer/DJ Sinden has an eclectic sensibility, spinning a spectrum of jams ranging from freestyle R&B to baile funk to Miami bass and dubstep. (Say that three times fast.) He recently relocated with his wife to Los Angeles from London. LA has rubbed off on him a bit, as we found out in our interview. It turns out that you can’t find decent elotes in Brixton. But Echo Park on the other hand…
In terms of food, what is your favorite city to visit while on tour?
Tokyo. Easily! I go there every year and usually spend an extra week to hang with friends and eat. My friend Taku once took me to a sushi master restaurant, accommodating about nine people. Best meal ever!
What are three staples in your refrigerator at home?
A jar of pepperoncinis, some blue cheese crumbles and coconut water. The fridge is never not without these.
The last meal you made at home was…
Garlic and mixed herb shrimp served with rice and steamed broccoli. Simple and quick.
What was the first food to hit your lips in the morning?
Typically granola and yogurt. But my wife whips up a good veggie sausage and muffin with Sriracha.
What are your food or drink requirements for shows?
Sparkling water, top shelf vodka and club soda, also some beers. I've sneaked a cheese plate on there, which sometimes makes an appearance at shows.
Do you have any pre-show food rituals or habits?
Usually tracking down good local sushi or feel-good Asian food.
Last time you bought food from a street cart?
I frequently buy wheels with chili sauce and lemon from the elote man. Very L.A.
Earliest cooking memory as a child?
Probably helping my mum bake a cake but I can't really cant remember.
If you're eating after 3 a.m, you're likely eating...
Grilled lobster sandwich from L.A Cafe and sour punch straws from the 'high snax drawer'!
What's your favorite music to cook to?
Al Green. Setting the mood!
If you get hungry during a set, what kinds of food do you snack on that won't get the equipment all messy?
I once got a pizza delivered to me while I was spinning at a show in Toronto. I offered it out to the crowd. It was a 17-inches, so huge!
Have you ever had a really good dinner at a club?
Lux club in Portugal has a great restaurant next door (Bica Do Sapato). It’s owned by John Malkovich and his partners. Really good.
