Racked Up: Store Your Spices Wisely

It's not often you make a recipe that calls for grated nutmeg, but last night was one of those nights. I opened the cabinet where all the spices are packed in and began to root around for the bottle with the whole nutmeg seeds, my trusty Microplane at the ready. Paprika, chili flakes, some fancy whole peppercorns — but no nutmeg! I knew it was in there somewhere, but I'm starting to think there must be some sort of Murphy's Law of spice bottles — McCormick's Law? — I can never seem to find the one I'm looking for.

This morning, I found a possible solution. The Kitchen Pro Ferris Deluxe features a carousel wheel with room for three spice bottles in each row — sort of like a spice Rolodex. The best part, from my perspective, is that it doesn't take up much counter space.

The Ferris Deluxe is available from Kitchen Pro in England, although you'll need to phone or email about delivery outside of the UK (contact info is here). The pictured bamboo frame is one option; plastic is another. And the spices come pre-loaded (with spices sourced in England), though the bottles are certainly reusable.
