Video: Austin Bands At The Food Republic Interview Lounge
Musicians talk barbecue and beer in Texas
In April we headed down to the Austin Food and Wine Festival to hang out with chefs, sample some crazy tacos and eat a ridiculous amount of barbecue. Food, as it should be, was our focus. But music was very close behind. We’re big music fans here. Hell, some of used to write about music for a living. Our Good Food Rocks series tips to this obsession.
So when we were scheduled hit Austin for a few days, we made a point of checking out some shows — Austin Psych Fest, held at Emo’s East and the Beauty Ballroom, ran all weekend and we caught sets from Olivia Tremor Control (!!), Black Lips, Meat Puppets and Brian Jonestown Massacre.
We also invited several local bands to stop by the Food Republic Test Kitchen and Interview Lounge, held at the W Austin. Here are some highlights from our interviews with Steve Terebecki of White Denim, who seems to be angling for a second career as a BBQ reviewer; Brett Orrison, sound engineer for The Black Angels and co-owner of his family's Shed Barbeque & Blues chain with locations across the South; and Matt Hines of The Eastern Sea, who moonlights as a craft beer brewer and serves up more than just tunes at his band's gigs..
