Word of the Day: Tzimmes
Building up your kitchen vocab arsenal
Tzimmes is a Jewish stew made with vegetables, fruit and meat. You say you've heard of more appetizing propositions? Well, it gets sweeter when honey is added to counterbalance the savory tastes of the meat and vegetables. You have to taste it to understand.
The old Yiddish word literally means “to make a mess of things,” which, flashes of grandma babysitting aside, makes sense given the combination of four different food groups. So please, make a tzimmes, or just follow this matzo ball recipe for slightly more organized chaos.
