Dark and Stormy Cocktail Recipe
A Bermudan Rum and ginger classic
The origins of the Dark and Stormy are fuzzy, as all good alcoholic histories can be. It is one of the official drinks of Bermuda — the other is the Rum Swizzle. You gotta love a country — er, a British territory — that takes the time and attention to have two national cocktails.
It's a drink that is as simple to make as it is refreshing, consisting of one part rum to 4 parts ginger beer, livened up with lime. The ginger beer is important here; don't be tempted to swap it out for less spicy, less ginger-y ginger ale. The sweet but tangy snap of ginger beer pairs perfecty with the rich smoothness of the dark rum. And yes, a version can be made with regular rum, but then you have a Light and Stormy. Much less poetic, no?
Ingredients
- Fill a highball glass halfway with ice cubes.
- Squeeze the lime over the ice and dump the squeezed fruit in as well for good measure.
- Pour in rum and ginger beer and stir.
- Serve
