10 Classic Movie Scenes About Food

We've all done it. Well, everyone I know has done it. We sit at a restaurant and browse the menu. Our eyes light up at the words "Soup du jour." Giving in to temptation, we ask the passing waitress what it is. Normally, the answer will be specific: "Mushroom Barley" or "Matzo Ball Soup."

But we always hold out hope for that off chance that she'll reply, "It's the soup of the day," opening the door for us to respond, in our best Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carey's character in Dumb and Dumber) impression, "That sounds good. I'll have that."

Movies can forever change our perception of food. The way we eat a certain dish, the way we order our food, the way we prep a classic French entree by boiling our lover's pet rabbit alive...

Sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomachs. And sometimes they're just the right size to take in the visual stimuli of a cui-scene. With that, let's take a look at 10 of the most Classic Movie Scenes About Food of all time.

The criteria to be considered for the list was simple:

  1. Is the food a prominent part of the scene?
  2. Do I look forward to this particular scene when watching the movie?
  3. Is the scene NOT in either "The Godfather" or "When Harry Met Sally." I left out some of the most obvious ones, like Meg Ryan's fake-orgasm-in-a-diner scene, because they're kind of played out.
