There's An Important Reason To Shake Fruit Containers At The Grocery Store
By giving fruit containers at the store a gentle shake, you can gauge the firmness (and therefore, ripeness) of the berries it holds.
Lack of sound, or dull thuds, could mean excess moisture or softness, indicating overripe berries. Instead, you should hear a distinct rattle when you give them a gentle shake.
Beyond sounds, you’ll be able to feel if they are firm when you shake the container. If they stick together while shaking, they are likely too ripe.
After gently shaking, check the bottom of the container to make sure nothing is sticking or clinging to the container, and give it a sniff to make sure it smells subtly sweet.
