The Most Nutritious Bread Options At Subway

A Subway sandwich can seem like a more nutritious choice than other fast food options, but taking a closer look at the company's bread can help you pick the healthiest offerings.

The five main bread options listed in Subway's current menu data sheet are artisan Italian, artisan flatbread, hearty multigrain, Italian herbs and cheese, and a wrap.

Other ones available at select regional locations include jalapeño cheddar, Monterey cheddar, and parmesan oregano, with occasional, seasonal, and limited-time specialties.

Subway lists its six-inch sandwiches as one serving and footlong ones as two. Each serving of the artisan Italian and multigrain breads holds the least fat, sodium, and calories.

The multigrain and jalapeño cheddar have the most fiber and minerals. The multigrain has 36 grams of carbohydrates, while the artisan Italian and jalapeño cheddar have 37 grams.

The wrap ranks highest with 50 grams of carbs. The jalapeño cheddar and the herbs and cheese have five and 10 milligrams of cholesterol, respectively, and the rest have zero.

The multigrain has around seven grams of sugar, and the flatbread has two of each. Both artisan breads have seven grams of protein, the wrap has eight, and the rest have nine.
