The Food City Anthony Bourdain Thought Was Severely Underrated
Late chef Anthony Bourdain visited over 80 countries in his lifetime, with a focus on exploring local foods. One place he believes was underappreciated was Montevideo, Uruguay.
In a 2018 interview with National Geographic, Bourdain explained, “It’s a very laid-back place. The people are really nice, the beaches are incredible, and there’s great food.”
While Montevideo overlooks the South Atlantic Ocean, its cuisine is meat-centric. Bourdain loved the chivito sandwich and sampled Uruguayan barbecue, choripán, and pizza.
