The Broccoli Chopping Hack So Obvious You'll Be Upset We Had To Tell You
When it comes to chopping broccoli, a cutting board littered with tiny green bits or uneven florets can be annoying. Luckily, a viral TikTok hack has the solution to these issues.
Per the TikTok video by @sidneyraz, boiling or cooking the broccoli first makes it easier to chop, reducing the prep time and the mess.
To start, place the whole broccoli head, floret side down, in a large pot of boiling water and cook it for 10 minutes. After that, remove it using a pair of tongs.
You'll notice the broccoli florets are already starting to fall away from the stem when the cooking time is up, and the rest can be removed with just a single slice of a knife.
However, some nutritionists believe boiling broccoli might not be the best way to retain all its vitamins compared to other cooking methods, like blanching, grilling, or baking.
Studies also show that chopping broccoli into small pieces and waiting before cooking increases the concentration of sulforaphane, a chemical compound with great health benefits.
