While sharing a recipe for skinny chicken Parmesan on her TikTok page, chef Giada De Laurentiis enticed viewers by giving away the secret for her favorite artisanal salt.
Giada’s go-to is a Tuscan sea salt blend mixed with several Italian herbs and spices. Per the TikTok video, it’s created in Tuscany, Italy, by famous butcher Dario Cecchini.
For over 250 years, the Cecchinis have lived in Italian wine country (between Florence and Siena), where their salt blend is known as "profumo del Chianti," or the scent of Chianti.
To create the blend, Dario mixes sea salt with sun-dried herbs like rosemary, sage, thyme, and lavender, as well as dried coriander, fennel, juniper, laurel, and some green pepper.
7.76-ounce bottles of Cecchinis’ artisanal Tuscan salt are sold for $16.50 online, including Giada’s site, Giadzy. The blend works well as a rub for poultry meats, fish, and pork.
For a bit of extra crunch and flavor, you can use the salt blend as a seasoning for grilled vegetable recipes, your favorite pasta sauce, or even atop a bowl of popcorn.
