Kiwi slices suspended in air

Should You Start Eating The Skin On Kiwis?

Kiwi skin is often fuzzy and chewy, prompting some to scoop out the fruit and toss the skin. But kiwi skin is not only edible — it's also incredibly nutritionally beneficial.

You can bite into a kiwi just like an apple, and an entire kiwi with skin has about 3.5 grams of fiber. Fiber helps the digestive system run smoothly and can reduce bloating.

Kiwi skin is loaded with tons of other nutrients, too. There is a high concentration of vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin B9, which helps your body turn carbs into energy.

Despite its benefits, if you have a history of kidney stones, steer clear of kiwi skin. This is because it has a high concentration of oxalates that form kidney stones.

If you do want to eat the skin but are put off by the texture, try scrubbing off some of the fuzz first, cubing it up, or mixing it into a fruit smoothie.
