Like many of us, culinary queen Ina Garten has a favorite recipe: slow-cooked, red wine-braised short ribs, according to her "Cook Like a Pro" cookbook.
Garten uses a two-step method for the ribs, first roasting them and then cooking them for two hours in a Dutch oven, where they slowly braise in beef stock and a lot of alcohol.
"If you want it to taste better, add alcohol," says Garten in her show “Barefoot Contessa.” She uses a dry, full-bodied red wine such as Burgundy, Côtes du Rhône, or Chianti.
Garten also adds a bottle of Irish stout beer to her short rib dish, which adds a rich, malty flavor with notes of coffee and chocolate to the braising liquid.
