Ina Garten's 4-Ingredient Dessert Is Ideal For Lazy Summer Nights
If you’re looking for a simple dessert to make on a hot summer day, skip the oven and try Ina Garten’s recipe for frozen berries with hot white chocolate.
Garten’s recipe only calls for frozen berries, white chocolate, vanilla, and heavy cream. However, it does require a little bit of planning ahead.
After prepping berries of your choice (like blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries) by de-stemming and slicing them, lay them flat on a sheet pan and put them in the freezer.
Once they freeze, store the berries in a freezer bag if you’re not using them right away. If you can’t prepare your frozen berries fresh, then store-bought will work just fine.
To make the dessert, melt white chocolate in a bowl over simmering water (aka a double boiler) together with vanilla and heavy cream. Remove it from the heat once it’s smooth.
Put the frozen berries in bowls and pour the warm chocolate on top. You’ll get a hot and cold contrast and a flavor contrast of tart berries and sweet white chocolate.
Freezing berries in a freezer bag will make them freeze together in a clump, making it hard to separate them, so freezing them flat on a pan is as crucial as using fresh berries.
As for the chocolate, be sure not to use chocolate chips, which contain stabilizers to help them hold their shape. Instead, use a baking-quality bar that can melt over gentle heat.
