How To Eat Papaya, For The Uninitiated
Papaya can be enjoyed raw or cooked in various cuisines, boasting a texture similar to mangoes and a flavor reminiscent of cantaloupes or peaches.
To safely consume papaya, it's important to wait until it ripens. Unripe papayas contain high levels of papaya latex, which can cause damage to the esophagus.
To enjoy papaya raw, cut it in half, cut out the seeds, and simply enjoy the flesh. For added flavor, add a little lime juice and sea salt.
To peel a papaya, hold it vertically and use a knife or vegetable peeler along the sides, being careful not to cut too deep. Use a paper towel to help prevent slipping.
