How To Clean Plastic Cutting Board Stains And Scuffs

Researching how to clean your plastic cutting boards will point you toward using bleach mixed with water, but there's a fast and non-toxic way to do it instead.

The foursome of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, baking soda, and salt, used in a three-part soak, spray, and scrub method, can make a surface pristine in less than 10 minutes.

Combine a few tablespoons of distilled white vinegar with water and soak the board for five minutes. Next, spray it with 3% hydrogen peroxide and set it for two to three minutes.

Mix salt, baking soda, and water in equal parts to make a gritty paste, and vigorously scrub it across the board. Many types of salt will work, but coarse kosher is best.

Each of these steps will help dredge up and kill any soaked-in bacteria. When finished scrubbing and satisfied with the results of the three steps, rinse the plastic cutting board.
