You might remember Andy Milonakis from his cult MTV2 sketch comedy show, or more recently as Roman Armond on the Kroll Show (watch this now!) But we know Andy Milonakis as a really smart food guy — for instance, you should check out his pointed thoughts on the Los Angeles sushi scene on Food Is The New Rock. He prizes good wine, better bourbon and maintains one fine Instagram account. It’s funny, true. But it also hints at a guy who knows his shit. Recently Milonakis visited Crete and shot some photos for @foodrepublic. Here are some highlights.
The first taste of Crete. The most talked about Greek food, the Gyro…only in Greece we don’t make it with mystery meat…so there is a little extra fat but I’d take that any day over that crazy American meat loaf on a spit. In Chania, Crete about a 15 minute walk passed the touristy side of the port, there is a strip with mostly seafood restaurants. I’m very happy with the beauty captured in this picture. Kalamari kai xtapodi in Kissamos Crete. Still in Chania, my cousin Antonia, I asked her what it’s called and she said “Antonia Sweet.” A brick wood burning outside stove, cooking lamb yet again with some potatoes. Sit outside and stare at the lovely mountain view about 1,500 feet up in the Cretan mountains in a small village called Papadiana, population I believe is well under 20. Making homemade mizithra cheese in Fres, Crete. Bream!
