What Is In Those Little 'Do Not Eat' Packets? And Can You Eat The Contents?

You know the exact ones we're talking about
Nov 11, 2014 9:00 am

Pop open a bag of beef jerky or a bottle of multivitamins and you'll come across a few of them. They’re like the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks…but without the prize part. You know the packets we’re talking about: those small white ones with some variation of “THROW AWAY” scrawled all over them. They also regularly come with a more ominous, albeit curiosity-inducing, warning: “DO NOT EAT." But what is in them exactly? And is it possible to eat their contents?

Symphony Eats Ghost Chilis, Attempts To Play Instruments

Classical music and hot peppers in perfect harmony
Nov 7, 2014 9:00 am

We've watched in horror as countless people take their figurative lives in their hands and chow down on something supremely spicy. You'd think members of the Danish National Chamber Orchestra with their music Ph.D's would know better than to take a ghost chili to the face before diving into an up-tempo ditty like Jacob Gade's "Tango Jalousie," but it makes for one spicy dance.

We Approve Of Food Huggers: Because Vegetables Need Hugs, Not Plastic Wrap

This simple gadget hugs, extends produce's life
Nov 4, 2014 4:00 pm

Don't halfheartedly "wrap" produce in plastic wrap and assume it'll just be fine in the fridge like that. It won't. It's going to get brown and wrinkly, dry out and not inspire you to use the rest. You'll probably forget about it, remembering only when it crawls out of the fridge months later. Don't let that be your eggplant. Pick up a set of Food Huggers and show your produce you're coming back for it later. Everyone knows that relaxed eggplant makes better parm.

A new Nowness video shows a great mind at work
Nov 3, 2014 1:00 pm

There's a reason that Estela, located right on E. Houston St. in the heart of New York City (well, up a short staircase anyway) is one of the most hyped-up restaurants of the past few years. Not just because the Obamas recently ate there or because it's become the unofficial canteen for NYC's food media, but owing to chef and co-owner Ignacio Mattos' highly nuanced spins on classic dishes. Watch him create one in this brand new video.

Let's have a little fruit for breakfast, shall we? YouTube's MoreApplesADay is about to show you how to eat a pineapple like the omnivore you are. Now start off your week by turning on some nice, soothing indie rock, inverting this noble fruit, holding it by its spiky end and chowing down like it's a friggin' turkey drumstick.

If These Finnish Death Metal Cough Drops Don't Fix You Right Up...

Then this bizarre TV commercial didn't do its job
Oct 22, 2014 3:00 pm

You might need a throat lozenge or two during Finland's famous endless winter, so try Zyx. This commercial is basically any commercial for Ricola cough drops, but written instead by an edgy 23-year-old at a trendy Scandinavian production company with one syllable and a cool accent. The cough drops are probably made with foraged medicinal greens, rare turquoise berries and fermented skate placenta, so pick up a box and get right back to business.
