Best of all, they have a daily special frozen cocktail. On today's menu: the sweet, tangy and utterly refreshing pineapple margarita. We'll have an Oregon lamb neck barbacoa taco with that, please.

Frozen Blood Orange Margarita Recipe

An icy, fruity anecdote to a hot summer night

The Blood Orange Margarita at Stephen Starr's El Vez is so popular that it has been on the menu now for 11 years and is the only frozen drink offered. Perfect for providing relief on a sticky summer night, try pairing the cocktail with the restaurant's spicy guacamole. Or, make one at home and enjoy while grilling out as the summer winds down.

Frozémonade Cocktail Recipe

An icy, tangy lemonade cocktail from Brooklyn

The Frozémonade was created to be the antidote to hot, sticky, summer nights in Brooklyn. But really, this drink is inspired by the fun of playing around with the blender. The best drinks often come together like this in one moment, with the concept, ingredients and name falling into place. Got a bottle of rosé? Prepare to meet your new favorite cocktail.

The Big Freezy: How New Orleans Came To Run On Icy, Boozy, Bottomless Daiquiris

Even fancy spots are warming up to the frosty sips

The Sazerac can claim a more elite status, carrying the legal title of New Orleans' official cocktail. But, the frozen daiquiri is far more ubiquitious around town. The climate is just right for it — both temperature-wise (think steamy and swampy) and politically (liquor lobby-friendly). Lax open-container rules in the city and a state law that specifically allows "frozen drinks" in cars have created a frosty go-cup haven that shows no signs of thawing. Chris Shott takes a big sip of the iconic icy beverage and its regional history.

This play on the classic pina colada punches you in the face with a nice amount of Branca Menta (a close cousin to Fernet Branca) with the usual juice suspects in the mix. Great for the backyard patio bash that needs a, well, punch in the face (in the best possible way).

Say No To Frozen Wine, But Yes To Frozen Beer

This bizarre Thai tradition has charmed NYC
Aug 13, 2014 10:30 am

I generally don’t recommend freezing wine. Mark Phillips, best known for his PBS wine series, advises freezing leftover wine in water bottles to make it last longer, but I don’t often feel like 750mL is too much wine to handle drinking in a day or two. One might expect me to feel the same way about beer, and although purists may blush, frozen beer has been my drink of the summer thanks to a small, but nearly perfect restaurant in Nolita called Uncle Boons. Read on.

Leave the tiki-style barware for your next island vacation, okay? Frozen drinks are unfailingly eye-catching, so let the cocktail speak for itself: clearly. Those visiting the Austin area for one of the city’s copious music or film festivals often leave lauding the city’s many renditions of the frozen margarita. That said, drinkers who don’t like tequila — or the often sub-par renditions of the margarita at less discerning spots — may crave something cold but more adventurous. Check out how some of Austin’s finest bartenders and restaurant owners create an eclectic and thoughtful list of frozen drinks worthy of a sample on your next visit.
