I was going to recommend some great rums in this week’s column, but was lucky enough to bump into rum expert Ed Hamilton at the Boston Cocktail Summit last week. We went for a rum punch and I asked him to tell me about the rums that he thinks everyone should sip on, as well as some cocktails and his favorite rum bars in the U.S.

As a bartender, one of the many pleasures of the trade is to surprise a guest with something that is similar, but unexpected, and likely a lot more interesting than their original request, should they put their trust in you. The Queens Park Swizzle is one of those home-run drinks that couldn't be any simpler and is always a crowd pleaser.
