I bought a new bottle of Japanese mayo over the weekend. (And the crowd goes wild!) This was cause for making something new to enjoy it with. The frozen takoyaki I impulse-bought along with the mayo was insufficient. Let's bastardize one Osakajin street food specialty at a time, shall we? I made okinomiyaki, sometimes referred to as Japanese pizza. Call it what you must, it makes an awesome lunch.

It's not our fault so many desserts translate seamlessly into pancakes. But, you could easily argue that doughnuts are breakfast food, which Midtown's Lexington Brass does many, many times every weekend. For this pancake recipe, I was inspired by a trip I took with my family years ago to the Caribbean. I remember having my first pineapple upside-down cake in Jamaica, and I was blown away by how delicious it was. I took that idea and applied it to breakfast, and we got a great response.

With the aid of a plastic squeeze bottle, readily available at the restaurant supply store for about five bucks, you can get out of your pancake rut and into some artfully dispensed brunch. Plus, no drips all over the stove and counter!
