Ghalia Mahmoud, by many accounts Egypt’s first celebrity chef, came from humble beginnings. She started her career in the kitchen as a housemaid and cooked in one of Cairo’s wealthy suburbs. Today, she’s a superstar chef in Post-Revolutionary Egypt. 

In 2007, Jori and I collaborated on an idea to open a shop that purchased food from interesting ethnic stores, markets and vendors from all over the 5 boroughs of NYC. The concept, though ill fated, produced some interesting research. As we delved into this project we came to learn that we shared a love for foraging both in the woods and on city streets.
